Artist’s Notes

The Passing is the final work in the Cosmic Knot series. It represents a passing from this life into the next. It also represents a continuation of the cycle of creation. The small knot in the work is the knot which appears in the Creation (the first work in the series).

The bright colors, intense patterns, and light symbolize the beauty of the unknown. The hands in the work also represent those who have passed before us who may be our guides in the world to come.

Symbolism of the Knot

The symbol of the knot in this work represents the eternal nature of life. The weavings of the knot are symbolic of our relationships in life. The continuous line shows that there is no end, only a cycle where we pass from one state to the next.
